A 12 Volt D.C. short circuit protector using SPDT relay
This device is useful when we are required to protect the D.C. circuit from short circuit. A short-circuit basically means that a live wire comes in contact with a neutral wire or when a high-volume electrical current passes through a low-resistance path that's not meant to carry electricity. This gives rise to unwanted heating of nearby components which may ignite them and lead to fire in no time.
Making procedure:-
A SPDT relay is used here.
- Simply connect the neutral wire and live wire as shown in figure 1.
- Adjoin +ve legs of 5mm LEDs and solder them
- Solder the -ve leg of each LED with the corresponding relay leg.
- Make a connection of the resistor as shown in Figure 1.
- Solder the push switch which will act as a reset button.
- You may check the output by connecting anything such as the d.c motor.

Applications:-
- This device can be used for protection of circuitry and avoiding the risk of fire in case of short-circuit.
- Prevent damage to the power supply equipment.Since it is ideal for using upto D.C. 12 voltage so avoid using it anywhere else.
- It also consists of a reset button which when pressed the green LED light glows indicating that the circuit has been reset.
