Automatic abdominal retractor is a device which brings advancement in medical surgery field. Automation using aurdino, wifi module and motors in traditional retractors used for abdominal surgery, reduces time and efforts than conventional methods. This provides wifi operating module from which we will be able to operate this device via smartphone.

Description

Problem statement-

The retractors for abdominal surgery are used manually to strech out the skin tissue of abdomin. This conventional method takes human effort and there might be a risk to patient while handling the retractors mannually. Due to the conventional method of using retractors while surgery, surgeon has to take more precautions while performing surgery, this consumes time of surgeon.

Idea generation-

We had performed the survey in which we gathered the information about problems faced by surgeons while performing surgery by consulting with surgeons. Thus we get this common problem of conventional method of retractors.

Introduction-

We have invented this device which focuses on enhancing the biomechanics of abdominal surgeries by introducing an “Automatic abdominal retractor” to alleviate the stress and fatigue experienced by the manual retractor holder. Conventional retractors often contribute to prolonged surgery times, placing significant strain on the holding individual and potentially compromising patient safety. Our innovative design eliminates the need for a human retractor holder by implementing automation, thus minimizing stress-related errors during surgery. The device utilizes medical-grade materials for strength and sterilization compliance while addressing cost concerns associated with traditional retractors. This advancement aims to improve accessibility to essential surgical instrumentation, particularly in clinics with limited resources, ultimately enhancing surgical efficiency and patient outcomes.

Making of device-

  1. We firstly develop hardware parts used in device.
  2. then they are connected with  other mechanical parts such as motors.
  3. We designed pcb layout for our device.
  4. Then we connected the required components in circuit on pcb.
  5. Then we connected the pcb and circuit to the mechanical parts.
  6. Then the coding for performing of wifi module and aurdino is performed using html.
  7. Then we connect the power supply to the device and test the functions and movements of  the parts of device.
  8. By using the code we open web page of wifi control of functions of device on smart phone.
  9. Thus we are enable to control the functions and movements of the device on our smartphone.
